Sidemount Fundamentals

This course covers the fundamentals of sidemount diving including both classroom workshops and three and 1/2 days of in-water skills development.

WHO THIS COURSE IS FOR:

  • Certified divers looking to learn sidemount diving

  • Certified divers wanting to progress to technical diving

COURSE PREREQUISITES:

  • Minimum age 18, 15 with parental consent

  • Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver or greater

  • Sidemount equipment selection and setup

  • Water entries

  • Donning and doffing cylinders

  • Buoyancy control and trim

  • Tech diving propulsion techniques - frog kick, modified frog kick, helicopter turn, back kick

  • Sidemount skills including, gas management, valve drills, out of air (donor/receiver)

  • Cylinder removal in water, partial and full

Course Equipment

You will need a sidemount harness/BCD and sidemount regulators for the course along with the hardware required to set up your sidemount cylinders. We recommend you purchase this prior to the course as the equipment is personally configured for you during your course. Please check with us regarding recommended sidemount systems before purchasing. Equipment is also available for hire if required.

Cylinders can be supplied by the student or rented for the course. Additional diving equipment is to be provided by the student including; a dive computer, compass, mask, fins, exposure protection, cutting devices, reels/spools and wet notes/slate.

Course fee

The course fee is based on our daily rate of $375/student. $325 for two or more on the course. The course fees cover your instruction. Certification fees, equipment hire, pool fees, course manual/eLearning, boat fees, accommodation and gases are at additional cost. Note: Instructor boat and accommodation costs are shared amongst course participants.

Certification

Students who successfully complete the course will be certified as a SDI Sidemount Diver and may apply the course towards a single specialty rating to complete the SDI Advanced Diver Development program and the SDI Master Scuba Diver Development program.
